Trump isn’t hiding his plans. Neither are we.
We’re going to Stop Trump. Are you in?
If elected, Trump will dismantle democracy.
His first term was just the warmup. Experts in authoritarianism have been clear about the danger of a second Trump term. They suggest there would be three Phases of Trump’s Term Two:
Trump installs MAGA loyalists at every level
People who place their loyalty to Trump above their loyalty to the country would run country, heading up power centers like the CIA, the FBI, the State Department, the Department of Defense, the DOJ. Other agencies would be politicized, and he’d reinstate a policy allowing him to fire currently-protected Civil Service employees at will. That could hollow out the policymaking heart of many agencies, replacing them with loyalists.
Phase 1
Trump uses the government (and military) for his own gain.
Trump has never shied away from using the presidency to line his pockets. And he’d still do that. But he’d also use the power of the federal government to go after enemies and settle scores. As one expert said, “He’s going to come in like an authoritarian autocrat on steroids.” With more loyalists and fewer “adults in the room,” there would be no one to curb Trump’s worst tendencies to use the military domestically, or to continue support of democracies (like Ukraine) abroad.
Phase 2
Trump inflames tensions, stokes polarization, and frays democracy.
Trump’s return would deepen the rifts between “red” and “blue” states. It would embolden right wing extremists and election deniers who – with Trump’s disdain for the rule of law –would feel confident that Trump’s approval shields them from prosecution.
Phase 3
So what can you do?
Giving Trump a two-year head start is a recipe for disaster. But you don’t have to wait. Stop Trump is a community that is starting the work now to hold off the Trump Train.
Stop Trump is dedicated to democracy, and sees Trump as a danger to the republic. But here’s the thing: Trump has been fundraising since … well … forever. He’s going to have a massive war chest and a two-year runway.
Meanwhile, our nominee will go through a messy primary and spend every last penny to get the Democratic nomination. Once they’re the nominee, they’ll have a huge target on their back.
But, until their other fundraising kicks in (which usually takes weeks to months) they’ll have no resources to fight back. In other words, they’ll be a sitting duck.
That’s where you and the Stop Trump community come in! We chip in a little every month starting now so that we can support the nominee right when they need it the most. We time our support to come as soon as we know who the Democratic nominee is.
